Tracking Performance Analysis of GPS Signal Using MATLAB-based SDR
Kyeong-Don Ryu, Hyoung min So, Heung-Won Park*

Research on SDR for satellite navigation has been drawing growing attention, thanks to advances in digital signal processing and computer hardware. Algorithms for hardware receivers can hardly be modified. In contrast, users can make changes to SDR algorithms. The flexibility can be greatly useful when conducting research. This paper will use the MATLAB-based SDR. It accurately tracks carrier signals and C/A codes by using IF signals sampled from RF Front-End. The SDR consists of signal acquisition and tracking loop, and tracks carrier signals and C/A codes. Its performance of tracking carrier signals and C/A codes was compared with that of theoretically known. In addition, analyzed was the SDR’s performance of tracking GPS signals when given different parameters of the signal tracking loop. Further, theoretical properties of loop bandwidth and damping ratio were compared to their actual tracking performance. Finally, correlation between the control parameters and the tracking performance was analyzed.
