LTE signal based vehicle positioning system in tunnel environment

Car navigation systems are successfully operating through GNSS. However, since this system is highly dependent on GNSS, performance is poor where multipath is severe, such as urban canyon, and it does not work in tunnels or underground parking lots where signals are not received. However, as the demand for navigation services continues to increase in these areas, further research is needed. In this paper, we propose a location estimation method in a tunnel using LTE signal. We proposed a peak tracking (PT) method (Shin et al. 2018). In addition, to improve the stability of the position estimation accuracy of the PT, it is combined with the dynamic time wrapping (DTW) based position result. To verify the performance of the system, experiments were conducted on the Gangnam beltway. Analysis of the performance based on OBD2 of the vehicle showed that the position accuracy was less than 50 meters on average.
